How are students accepted into TSA?

Due to high demand, enrollment at TSA is via lottery. The application form for the 2019-20 school year lottery will be available beginning in mid-October for completion on the TSA website at www.ts4arts.org on the Front Page or under the Enrollment tab. Once lottery applications are complete, within 24 hours, you will receive a Lottery Application Checklist. To view your checklist, login to the SchoolAdmin Parent Portal. (Where you fill out your initial lottery application). Completed lottery applications, including ALL checklist supporting document items, received during the open lottery application period, between mid October and Friday, January 25 at 3 p.m., will be entered into our New Student Lottery. Please note that for a lottery application to be considered complete, you MUST submit ALL required documentation on your individualized checklist by the appropriate deadline. Lottery applications completed or with missing checklist document items after Friday, January 25 at 3 p.m. will be considered “deferred” and only added to the end of the waitlist created by New Student Lottery, if requested or needed.

What is included in the required documentation?

An Individualized Checklist will be generated based on the information provided on your students’ lottery application. The checklist will not appear immediately. Please return to the SchoolAdmin Parent Portal after 24 hours. The checklist items will include items such as: immunization records, grade card (current grade report and final 2017-18), current full year schedule (high school students), unofficial transcript (current grades 10 and 11 only), proof of residency, birth certificate, standardized test scores from the past two years, and if applicable: current IEP and ETR, custodial paperwork, or home school portfolio. ALL document checklist items need to be submitted prior to Friday, January 25, 2019 at 3:00 p.m. to qualify to enter the 2019-20 school year lottery.

I have submitted all of the required documents, how will I know if I have a lottery number?

All applications for the 2019-20 school year lottery are processed online. You may check the status of your student’s application via the SchoolAdmin Parent Portal at any time, bearing in mind that lottery application import and review is a process and changes to the lottery application status will be gradual. Upon receipt of all documents, applications will be marked “Review in Process”. After review and acceptance of all necessary documentation, your lottery application checklist will be marked as “Eligible for Lottery” and notification of lottery number will be sent via email. The lottery application and supporting documents can and may remain under review throughout the entire enrollment process which may extend far beyond the lottery including up to and until official enrollment. We can and may request document updates and verification throughout the entire enrollment season.

When is the lottery? Does a lottery number mean I am accepted?

The lottery will be held Friday, February 22, 2019. A lottery number means that you had a complete lottery application with ALL checklist items submitted before the lottery deadline of Friday, January 25 at 3:00 p.m. Each lottery application that is verified to have been completed with ALL supporting documents before the deadline will receive a lottery number and each number issued will be drawn. There will be a separate lottery drawing for every grade level. It is the order in which the numbers are drawn, in conjunction with the projected number of available openings, which determines the order in which students are scheduled for the Next Step Day. Please note that a lottery ticket does not guarantee an invitation to the Next Step Process and also that an invitation to the Next Step Day does not guarantee that there will be an offer of a space or acceptance. Please be aware that we do invite more people to the Next Step Day than we have spaces for. This helps facilitate the wait list process.

Does my child need to interview or audition to attend TSA?

It depends on grade level and area of artistic interest. Invitations will be sent for the Next Step Day. Appointments will be scheduled individually based on lottery numbers drawn and are necessary and required for admission. This Next Step Day is held solely to assist in the scheduling process and to determine appropriate skill levels. This does not determine entrance into TSA. The Next Step / Informational Day for 2019 for all grade levels will be held on Saturday, March 23rd. More detailed information will be included with the Next Step Day invitation.

How many openings are there?

TSA now has an average of 100 students per grade level. Current students are given the opportunity to re-enroll for the following school year, thus we will not know the exact number of openings per grade level until the re-enrollment process is completed. (Initial 2019-20 offer notifications will be sent in mid to late April/May).
