Poetry Out Loud is a partnership among the National Endowment for the Arts, the Poetry Foundation, and the state art agencies throughout the US. Toledo School for the Arts held its first school-wide Poetry Out Loud competition on January 26th, 2018. Fifteen students competed, each reciting two contrasting poems which they had selected from the POL online anthology of published poetry. The competition was judged, according to POL guidelines, by Mr. Justin Longacre, Ms. Heather Smietanski, Ms. Natalie Gray, and Ms. Letha Ferguson. Jack Kerger was the winner, and on February 20th he advanced to the regional competition in Findlay, where he competed against students from 5 other schools. Jack earned enough points to advance to the state competition, which was held on Saturday, March 3rd in Columbus. At the state competition he competed against students from 10 other schools; he did a great job but did not make it the top three.

Be on the lookout for our next TSA Poetry Out Loud competition in January 2019 – we plan for it to be an annual event!
