About the TSA Music Department
TSA Music students thrive in an accomplished music program that is diverse and highly competitive in the state of Ohio. The talents, skills, discipline, and confidence of TSA music students drives them towards repeated success. They have have enjoyed repeated success in the state level OMEA adjudications and competitions, the annual "Music In The Parks" Festival at Cedar Point, and they had a strong performance at a national competition held in Virginia Beach, Virginia in May 2007.
The TSA Music Department offers a wide range of musical training and experiences. Each individual program encourages musical exploration that spans cultures, covers both traditional and modern music, encourages experimentation and practice with multiple instruments, and allows students to develop skills in music composition. A dedicated faculty, ample musical resources, community support, and a strong record of achievement nurture the ongoing success of this dynamic department at TSA.

Band (top)
The TSA Studio Winds is a successful component of the Music department. Students are instructed in the tonal, tuning, interpretive, and technical fundamentals used by wind instrument players, through demonstration, musical exercises, and ensemble literature. Music in a variety of styles and contexts from several historical and contemporary periods will be studied and performed, providing students with the opportunity to apply those skills and concepts, and to experience musical compositions from diverse cultural and historical sources.
The TSA Studio Winds is impressive to experience in person, and when they merge on stage with the TSA Studio Orchestra to play a grand score, the effect is simply amazing.
TSA Chorus (top)
The TSA Chorus is comprised of the Junior Chorus (grades 6 - 8, and the Senior Chorus (grades 9 - 12). Students must audition to be accepted into the TSA chorus. Chorus students will study proper posture, breathing and breath support, and voice (chest and head voice). Many Chorus performances are strictly choral selections, but some Chorus students also succeed as soloists or star in one of TSA's musical productions with a critical singing part.
TSA Chorus has consistently performed well in the OMEA adjudications, and other competitions.
TSA Orchestra (top)
The TSA Orchestra performs as various ensembles, allowing students to experience their role within a small or large group performance.
The TSA Orchestra has enjoyed phenomenal success in competitions and the OMEA adjudications (see the 'Archived Music Articles' section on the main Music page). TSA Orchestra students have earned recognition both as groups and as individuals.
The Orchestra students are exposed to multiple styles and eras of music. In one performance they may play a classical masterpiece, then cut loose with a rendition of a modern theme song or movie score, much to the delight and amazement of their audiences everywhere.
TSA Percussion (top)
The Percussion courses at TSA allow students to explore various cultural styles and perform with a wide variety of percussion-based instruments. TSA percussion performances have commanded the attention of their audiences with both heart-pounding rhythmic sets and pleasant melodic percussion instrumentals. TSA Percussion also hosts an annual percussion festival and recently added steel-drums from Trinidad to its collection of instruments.
Commercial Music (top)
The Pop Combo and Jazz Combo courses allow students to work in small groups to compose and perform contemporary music.
From initial training in guitar all the way up to live performances at Toledo establishments and in competitions, students enjoy these courses because they get to experience what it's like to perform as a modern jazz or pop band on stage and in TSA's recording studio. In 2005, the Brady Recording Room was added to the facility, which allows students to work with professional quality sound studio recording equipment.
